How should we deal with husband's brother's family who leeches off of recently widowed mother? My motherinlaw

has been living with us for the past 6 months waiting for her granddaughter to move out of her home. During this time we have become aware of how much my husband's brother's wife and children take advantage of this vulnerable time in her life. She is very capable and functional but recently widowed. The granddaughter doesn't pay the utilities, let the landscaping die, nor has she paid rent in the past 6 months. The granddaughter and her mother pay Grandmother back with cks that bounce. We are sick of it but realize there are limits to what we can do. Try to fin them a low income housing if they cant afford to move.That is what I will do.
That whoop can is a great idea!!! But sadly you cannot do anything, your mother in law has to be the one to do it. She has to realize that she is being taken advantage of and change it. Until she does you can try and talk to her about it but in the end it is up to her.
Have you considered having your husband petition a court to become his mother's guardian?
